A Crazy Day at Durban Market

A Crazy Day at Durban Market

The Adventures of Ben

Durban’s Victoria Street Market is a great place to visit, there’s lots of things to look at. I enjoyed pancakes for lunch there and bought a Zulu cultural outfit with shoes made from car tyres! Whatever you do guys, do not get spice in your eyes, that was not cool! This was a crazy day that I tell everyone about often. You should check it out.

***Not recommended to visit the muti market on your own, chat to Chris or Norma at www.blue-dolphin-ts.co.za and they can arrange a visit for you. They know a whole bunch of cool places in Durban and surrounds

*** Victoria Street Market has underground parking or catch an Uber to the front entrance.

Good Place for Souvenirs and Jewelry

Good Place for Souvenirs and Jewelry

This is a fun market to visit – shopkeepers and assistants are really friendly and only a couple were pushy. There is a lot of beautiful Zulu and Xhosa beaded jewelry here and if you’re around for a few days, you can also commission pieces. You don’t have to haggle if it makes you uncomfortable – prices are comparable to other markets (just have an idea of how much things should cost before you go). Others have commented on the safety of the surrounding neighborhood. It’s crowded but safe. As long as you aren’t flashing your money and phone around, you’ll be fine. I waked to the market from the eastern part of Durban Central and felt perfectly comfortable. The neighborhood has a lot of interesting fabric and clothing shops as well as street vendors selling all sorts of things. It’s worth having a look around if you’re already in the area.

A Treasure House of Zulu Craft

A Treasure House of Zulu Craft

The Victoria Street Market is truly a treasure house of Zulu craft… woodwork, ostrich eggs, gorgeously crafted bead jewellery, and more and more! So so many shops, I bought truly amazing stuff, now decorating my table at home. But bargain you must!

A Durban Must See

A Durban Must See

The Victoria Street Market is a great place to visit, a must see in Durban… what a vibe! Lots of stalls selling all sorts of spices, crafts, African clothing and souvenirs. The Market is a very busy place but there is a parking lot under the main shopping area, so we parked there. It was good for keeping the car cool too!
